Women’s Karagouna Costume
The women’s Karagouna costume has a long white linen underdress to which heavy black silk fringe is attached at the hem and sleeves. The full white overcoat or sayias is intricately embroidered with characteristic orange cord at the hem as is the vest or yileko and the red apron or podia which are worn over the sayias. On their heads they wear the traditional black silk scarf which is also embroidered and they also wear necklaces of gold coins.

Men’s Costume (not pictured)
The men’s costume from Thessaly is characterized by black wool baggy pants (the vraka), a black knit belt (the zoni), a white cotton shirt with wide sleeves, and a black wool vest (the yileko). On their heads they wear a small round black hat of felt.
